The "Aelteste Volkstedt" was founded in 1762. It is the oldest working porcelain manufactory in Thuringia. Its founding dates back to Georg Heinrich Macheleid who deciphered the composition for the right porcelain paste, the "Arkanum", in 1760. Artistic pieces from the Aeltesten Volkstedter Porzellanmanufaktur are highly regarded among connoisseurs and today fetch the highest prices in the antique trade. The freshness, grace and temperament of these famous, fantastic pieces are unsurpassed worldwide. Every small step of the manufactoring process is only carried out by hand: a complex method that however ensures harmony and perfection in the shape and colouring. In 2006/2007, the factory building of the oldest Thuringian porcelain manufactory from the 18th century was expanded into a "glazed porcelain manufactory". VISITORS CAN SEE HOW EXQUISITE PORCELAIN IS CREATED AS THEY WATCH ARTISANS AT WORK. THE NEWLY SET-UP factory museum "chronicles" the development of the manufactory using templates, models, forms and historical documents.
