Here you can see the production of porcelain lace and get a glimpse into the manufacturer's guts (interesting reportage in German). Even at the beginning of the 20th century, 4,000 workers worked in several figurine porcelain factories around Rudolstadt. Now there are dozens of them. The porcelain mass is applied to a pcs. of fabric that does not burn in the oven (during firing) and the lace is thus relatively strong (but still understandably fragile). In the Czech republic only figurine manufacturer Duchcov manufactory near Teplice (Royal Dux Bohemia), paper was used instead of fabric, but it burned during firing, making the lace relatively more fragile.
