Whether as a relief on the Temple of Aphrodite, as a painting by Raphael, or as a fountain by Ernemann Sander, the Three Graces are a frequently depicted theme in art. This group of figures, featuring three women, was sculpted here by Felix Zeh from bisque porcelain. The Charites (the Three Graces) were the children of Zeus, the father of the gods, and Eurynome, the goddess of grace, and according to Greek mythology, they brought grace, joy, and beauty to both mortals and gods. In art, the Three Graces are usually depicted unclothed and embracing one another. Felix Zeh follows this tradition with his reproduction of the work by the Italian sculptor Antonio Canova. The style of depiction, in the manner of Italian classicism, makes the sculpture a decorative addition to any setting. The high-quality porcelain and the craftsmanship are typical of pieces from the Scheibe-Alsbach porcelain manufactory.
